Teaching Philosophy
Drawing on combined backgrounds in Iyengar, Ashtanga, Kripalu, Kundalini, and therapeutic yoga, all of our teachers aim to truly serve each individual student. The Anjali Yoga Studio is committed to making yoga accessible to every body. In all of our classes students will learn alignment and integrity for structural support and self-awareness while awakening to the subtle energetic body. Enjoy personalized instruction and therapeutic adjustments from our compassionate teachers. Please come in comfortable and supportive clothing and bring your own mat or borrow one of ours. It is best to practice yoga on an empty stomach. Most importantly: please come with an open mind and a smile.
Class Descriptions
Gentle Yoga:
Gentle
yoga is open to anyone. We practice traditional yoga postures and
modifications to build strength, flexibility and inner-awareness. This
class is suitable for beginners, people recovering from injury, people
returning to yoga practice after a prolonged break, seniors and people
who are not particularly flexible. Explore the benefits of yoga and
learn correct alignment in a safe, supportive atmosphere.
Deep and Mellow:
This restorative yoga class allows you to take
the time to look within and let go. Enjoy the chance to relax and
unwind to candlelight and peaceful music. Through longer and deeper
holds in each posture, learn to meditate on the endless energy within.
Kundalini Yoga:
Kundalini
Yoga was brought to the US by Yogi Bhajan in the 1960s. Each class begins with a tune in, breathing exercises, warm ups, a yoga set, followed by relaxation and meditation. The practice energizes and revitalizes the body through
postures, breaths, mudras (hand positions) and mantras (sound currents).
Kundalini Yoga is welcoming to beginners, and can deepen your current
yogic practice, bringing awareness to the mind, body and spirit. It is
also said to strengthen your immune, glandular, and nervous systems. Come join us and leave
blissed-out!
Foundations:
Learn the tools for a lifelong yoga practice including asana, pranayama and meditation to inspire a deeper connection with self and others. This class is optimal for students with little or no background in yoga, and also those who wish to deepen their knowledge of alignment and structural details within the postures.
Anjali Yoga:
Join our studio's signature class to deepen your practice on every level. Class begins with pranayama (the art of breathing) and meditation. We build heat, stretch and strengthen with a challenging, flowing vinyasa sequence and practices that utilize the studio's rope wall including backbends, inversions and more. The class concludes with mat work and deep relaxation. Recommended for students with three months of yoga experience or more.
Vinyasa:
Move gracefully through a vinyasa flow linking together physical, mental and spiritual qualities into one grounded practice. Awareness of breath is the focus as you are lead through sun salutations (suryanamaskar), standing poses, inversions, backbends, and hip-openers.
